I don’t want to be
A last-minute mother,
Ever on the go,
Always rushed and bothered.
I don’t want to be
A make-do mother,
Maintaining “good enough”
‘Cause it’s the best I can muster.
I don’t want to be
A righteous mother,
Getting all indignant,
Blaming others when I suffer.
I don’t want to be
A high-and-mighty mother,
Judging “that mom over there”
As though I stand above her.
No, I think I’d like to be
A calm, creative mom –
A mom who’s fun to be around,
A mother full of song.
