NaPoWriMo Day 1: State of Mind

Day 1 of NaPoWriMo 2013. I wasn't feeling terribly inspired to start writing poetry, but knew I couldn't slack on the first day of the challenge, so I wrote a villanelle about not feeling terribly inspired.

Poetry is sometimes hard to find,
And poems don’t come easy every day.
I’m in an unpoetic state of mind.

Day One, am I already behind?
I tell myself, get to it, don’t delay!
But poetry is sometimes hard to find.

Do I wait for all the stars to be aligned?
Or all the mind clouds to be swept away?
I’m in an unpoetic state of mind.

Seeking respite from the daily grind:
Come out, poems! Please come out to play!
But poetry is sometimes hard to find.

I search for words, but sometimes I feel blind.
Why is it that my mind feels made of clay?
I’m in an unpoetic state of mind.

Okay, I’m done, I’ve sniveled and I’ve whined.
I’m going to write this poem, come what may.
But poetry is sometimes hard to find.
I’m in an unpoetic state of mind.
